The Penobscot Bay Virtual Holiday Concert 2020 will air performances on Belfast Community Television (BC TV - 1301) on December 23, at 7 p.m., and December 24, at 6 p.m.; in addition to other viewing and listening opportunities.
The program may be viewed online: https://vimeo.com/485509807.
Everyone has a favorite Christmas carol: a song from your favorite Christmas movie, one you sang in church every year growing up or a carol that reminds you of Christmas Eve at your grandmother’s house. Christmas caroling has taken place for thousands of years, an adaptation of pre-Christian solstice singing. Whether you are a fan of Christmas carols being played the day after Halloween or if you prefer to wait for your Christmas caroling until after Thanksgiving, Christmas just isn’t Christmas without carols.
“The Penobscot Bay Singers share some of our holiday favorites to put you in the spirit,” said Singers, in a news release. “Whether you enjoy Christmas, other seasonal festivals, or winter itself, this program includes a few classics for your enjoyment. We hope this will liven your spirits, put a lift in your step and bring a smile to your face, as the light returns.....UNTIL we can sing for and with you in person again!”
Recorded solos, duets, and a few trios, at the beautiful local venues Captain Nickels Inn, Searsport, Maine; First Baptist Church, Belfast; and St Margaret's Episcopal Church, Belfast. The program also includes several ‘Seasonal Images,’ with contributions from Belfast Historical Society and Museum, Penobscot Marine Museum, singers and friends.
There will be viewings on the neighboring Knox County community television channel, Maine Coast TV (MV TV 1301) and the audio version will be featured on Belfast Community Radio, WBFY 100.9.
This program is a little more than 90 minutes long, with brief pauses every 30 minutes.
“We hope you will enjoy and The Penobscot Bay Singers look forward to seeing you all again in 2021,” said Singers. “Many thanks to everyone who helped make this project possible for us.”
ABOUT Penobscot Bay Singers:
For nearly 50 years, The Penobscot Bay Singers, originally the Robert Coller Chorale, has been a cultural asset to the Mid-Coast region and has been entertaining audiences in and around Waldo County since 1973. The singers are an eclectic group, ranging from a pre-teen to singers in their 80s, with varying backgrounds. The common factor is love of choral music and the development of aspiring singers into competent performers. Robert Coller died in December of 2019. He left behind many unsung musical notes, and musicians whose lives he touched over the years. The Penobscot Bay Singers will be forever thankful for his initial vision.
The Penobscot Bay Singers are under the direction of Richard M. Dostie and accompanied by Linnea Johnson. Currently, all rehearsals are suspended until further notice.
The Penobscot Bay Singers is a 501 (c) (3) organization. Information about the group may be found on Facebook at Penobscot Bay Singers or www. penobscotbaysingers.org.
