PenBay Singers, Mount View Chamber present spring concert
BELFAST/SEARSPORT — The PenBay Singers and The Mount View Chamber Singers present their Annual Spring Concert 2019, Saturday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m., at St Francis of Assisi Church, Belfast, and Sunday, April 7, at 3 p.m., at Searsport First Congregational Church, Searsport.
These locations are different from previous years.
The Penobscot Bay Singers will perform Choral Works for Spring directed by Richard M. Dostie. The selections are a mixture of secular and sacred works featuring Randall Thompson’s The Best of Rooms and Gabriel Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine, plus some Easter carols and American folk-songs.
This concert will also feature the Mount View Chamber Singers directed by Rebecca Childs. They will perform a mixture of secular and sacred works in their usual a cappella style.
Childs is currently the choral director at Mount View High School in Thorndike. She graduated from Gordon College in May of 2018 where she received her Bachelors of Music in Music Education. Her position in the RSU 3 district includes teaching high school, 7th and 8th grade, and elementary level students.
“Our regular audience is used to having the afternoon concert at St. Francis, but due to a scheduling conflict in Searsport, this year we are changing our usual venues and times,” said organizers, in a news release.
Suggested donation is $15 at the door; children admitted free.
The Penobscot Bay Singers, originally the Robert Coller Coastal Chorale, has been entertaining audiences in and around Waldo County since 1973, according to the release. The singers are an eclectic group with varying backgrounds. The common factor is love of choral music.
The Penobscot Bay Singers is a 501 (c)(3) organization. Information about the group may be found on Facebook at Penobscot Bay Singers or www.penobscotbaysingers.com.
