Pauline M. Long, obituary
CAMDEN — Pauline M. Long, 93, died Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Pen Bay Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in South Thomaston, September 1, 1931, she was the daughter of Harry and Marion Morse Smith. Educated locally, she attended and graduated from Rockport High School in 1949. Following high school, Pauline enrolled in the Woman’s Army Corps (WAC), serving in Fort Bliss, Texas.
On April 6, 1952, Pauline married Cedric W. Long. Together they made their home in Camden.
When her children were in school, Pauline worked in the Camden School District with the Hot Lunch Program where she could keep an eye on her children. Later she became a C.N.A. and worked for many years at Camden Healthcare. After retiring in 1996, she was remembered by many former students as the ‘lunch lady’. She could also be found working at the Camden IGA.
Pauline’s number one priority was her family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was proud of all her family and the loved they shared.
Predeceased by her parents, Harry Smith and Marion Smith Godding; two brothers, Lee Smith and Alfred Smith, as well as a sister, Millicent Haines; Pauline is survived by her husband, Cedric Long, Sr. of Camden; her children, Gary Long and his wife Debra of North Carolina, Diane Miller of Camden, Cedric Long, Jr. of Bangor, Darrell Long and his companion Jan Fish of Rockport, Steven Long and his companion Bernadette Barrows of Camden; a brother, Leonard Smith of Gardiner; her grandchildren, James Long, Joseph Long, Elizabeth Gleason, Brian Jones, Kim Berry and her husband Kevin, Sarah Houle and her husband Brandon, Matthew Slocomb and his wife Michelle, Juile Klenk, Jessica Dalton, Tyler Long and his wife Christi, Samantha Armstrong and her husband Joseph; a sister-in-law Jill Perry of St. George; as well as 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 1 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Interment will follow at West Rockport Cemetery.
