Oceanside wrestling finishes seventh at Cheverus Invitational

PORTLAND — The Oceanside High School wrestling team hit the road Saturday, Jan. 18 to compete in Portland at the Cheverus Invitational. 

The Mariners finished seventh with 66 points. 

Placing for the Mariners were Matthew Spear (first), Silas Spear (second), Liam Doherty (fourth) and Kaleb Blackwell (third). 

120 pounds: Silas Spear pinned Jillian Lindgren (Fryeburg) and pinned by Sean Radel (Kennebunk). 

132 pounds: Seth Spear pinned James Holly (York), pinned by Kaleb Burnette (Biddeford/Thornton Academy), won by majority decision against Kayden Soiett (Gardiner) and lost to Liam Doherty (Cheverus). 

138 pounds: Josh Jackomino pinned by Max Merrill (Mountain Valley) and pinned by Marek Pasieniuk (Kennebunk)

170 pounds: Nat Small defeated Austin Gosalnt (Windham), pinned by Pius Olango (Biddeford/Thornton Academy) and lost by technical pin against Dana Purington (Gardiner). 

182 pounds: Matthew Spear pinned Lincoln Fournier (Deering), pinned Jason Hart (Windham/Gray-New Gloucester) and won by majority decision against Aushe Edmond (Biddeford/Thornton Academy). 

195 pounds: Devin Guptill pinned by Thomas Cressey (Biddeford/Thornton Academy), pinned Emily Wiggin (Unknown) and pinned by Jonah Byam (Mountain Valley). 

220 pounds: Kaleb Blackwell pinned Mohammad Al Ahmad (Deering), pinned by William Orso (York), pinned Gabe Winson (Mountain Valley) and pinned Seth Beyea (Biddeford/Thornton Academy). 

285 pounds: John Burchett pinned by Chris Fortin (Kennebunk) and pinned by Matt Belantoni (Cheverus).
