Oceanside softball blanks Erskine Academy

ROCKLAND — The Oceanside varsity softball team enjoyed victory in its home opener against Erskine Academy on Friday, April 19. 

The host Mariners improved its record to 2-0 with the 4-0 victory, while visiting Erskine dropped to 1-1 on the season. 

In the Friday contest, Oceanside plated a run in the fourth inning and three in the fifth. 

Erskine collected two hits, while Oceanside tallied eight. 

Erskine committed four errors, while Oceanside committed none. 

In the pitching circle for Erskine was Kayla Hodgkins, who collected five strikeouts. 

In the pitching circle for Oceanside was Chloe Jones, who tallied 15 strikeouts. 

“Chloe Jones has been lights out for two games she has 29 strike outs and [zero] walks in two games,” said Oceanside head coach Rusty Worcester. “She has great control and has hit all her spots with all her pitches. She has a 1-hit shut out and a 2-hit shut out in two games.” 

Pacing the Oceanside offense were Lily Judecki (double), Rachael Joyce (double, RBI), Abby Veilleux (two singles), Jessica Watkinson (two singles), Grace Pratt (single, RBI) and Jones (single). 

Lida Boucher and Kaylin Rollins collected singles for Erskine. 

“The girls are working hard at their game and we work hard to improve our game,” said Worcester. 

Oceanside will be in action again Monday, April 22 on the road against Camden Hills at 4:30 p.m.
