ROCKLAND — The Oceanside High School social studies department conducted a virtual mock election between Tuesday, Oct. 27 and Friday, Oct. 30.

Students and staffers at the school elected to oust three incumbents while sending two incumbents to reelection victories.

Four Democrats won races among the Mariners casting ballots, while two Republicans won races.

In the Presidential race, Democrat Joe Biden defeated incumbent Republican Donald Trump by a 113-81 combined tally with a 76-68 tally among students and a 37-13 tally among staff.

In the U.S. Senate race, Democrat Sara Gideon defeated incumbent Republican Susan Collins 100-82 overall, winning the staff vote 36-14 but narrowly losing the student vote to Collins 68-64.

In the race for U.S. House of Representatives, incumbent Democrat Chellie Pingree bested Republican Jay Allen 130-73 as staffers supported her by a count of 38-13 and students by a count of 92-60.

For State Senate, Republican Gordon Page defeated incumbent Democrat David Miramant in the District 12 race 122-79 taking the student vote 90-65 and the staff vote 32-14.

For State House of Representatives, District 92 incumbent Democrat Ann Matlack prevailed 45-32 over Republican Karry Lepaurlo winning the student vote 33-30 and the staff vote 12-2. Though Lepaurlo appeared on the mock ballot at Oceanside High School, Lepaurlo dropped out of the race in August and is not on the ballot this November.

For State House of Representatives, District 93, the youth vote propelled Republican Michael Mullins to a 52-44 victory over Democrat Valli Geiger. Mullins captured the youth vote 46-34 while Geiger captured the staff vote 10-6.
