Oceanside field hockey falls to Gardiner

ROCKLAND — The Oceanside varsity field hockey team hosted Gardiner for a Thursday, Sept. 19 showdown. 

In the end, the visiting Tigers collected a 6-1 victory over the host Mariners. 

With the loss, Oceanside’s record now sits at 0-5 for the season. 

Scoring in the first half for Gardiner were Maggie Bell (corner, 22:40), Bell (assisted by Maddy Farnham on corner, 20:57), Bell (assisted by D. Clarey on corner, 9:30), Farnham (deflection on corner, 6:57) and Farnham (deflection, 5:43). 

Oceanside scored its lone goal in the second half when Erin Stevenson scored courtesy assists from Emma Gerrish and Emma Young on a corner at the 8:23 mark. 

Scoring in the second half for Gardiner was Farnham (corner, 16:22). 

Gardiner recorded 13 corners, while Oceanside had four. 

Gardiner had 19 shots, while Oceanside had two. 

In the goalie net, Cassidy Collins had one save for Gardiner and Alex Barstow had 13 for Oceanside. 

For its next game, Oceanside will travel Saturday, Sept. 21 to Erskine Academy for a 10 a.m. contest.
