Oceanside baseball tops Lincoln Academy in ninth inning rally

NEWCASTLE — The Oceanside baseball squad collected its second win of the season Saturday, May 8 on the road in Newcastle against Lincoln Academy thanks to an extra inning rally. 

The visiting Mariners slipped past the hosts 4-2 in nine innings to improve its record to 2-5. Lincoln Academy, meanwhile, dropped to 1-3 on the season. 

Oceanside plated one run in the second inning and three in the ninth inning, while Lincoln Academy plated one in the opening inning and the final frame. 

Oceanside racked up seven hits, committed two errors and left nine runners on base in the contest. 

On the flip side, Lincoln Academy recorded five hits, committed one error and abandoned 12 runners on base. 

Alex Bartlett (two singles) was the lone repeat hitter for Oceanside while Nick Prior (two singles, double) was the lone repeat hitter for Lincoln Academy. 

Nathan True (one run, four hits, nine strikeouts, two walks) worked the pitcher’s mound for seven innings for Lincoln Academy while Myles Wotton (three runs, three hits, two strikeouts, three walks) pitched two innings. 

Duncan Oakes-Nelsen (six innings, one run, two hits, eight strikeouts, four walks), Bartlett (two innings, two hits, four strikeouts, two walks) and Will Eaton (one inning, one run, one hit) pitched for Oceanside. 

In the top of the ninth inning, Oceanside was able to plate its three runs courtesy an RBI single from Oakes-Nelsen and a two-run single by Finnegan Lynch. 

The next contest for Oceanside will be a home showdown Monday, May 10 with Camden Hills at 4 p.m.
