Oceanside baseball, softball collect regional quarterfinal wins

ROCKLAND — The Oceanside baseball and softball teams were in action for the Class B North regional quarterfinals on Thursday, June 7 at home in Rockland. 

Both teams were able to secure victories, thus advancing both Oceanside teams into the regional semifinals. 

Baseball: Oceanside 6, Hermon 4

The fourth-seeded Oceanside baseball team hosted fifth-seeded Hermon in a Class B North regional quarterfinal showdown Thursday, June 7. 

At the end of the battle, the Mariners escaped with a 6-4 victory to improve to 15-3 and advance to a regional semifinal contest at Ellsworth on Saturday, June 9 at 1 p.m.

On Thursday, Hermon plated two runs in each the second and third innings, while collecting four hits and committing one error. 

Oceanside plated two runs in the first and four in the sixth, while collecting nine hits and two errors.

On the mound for Hermon were Jacques LeBonte (5.2 innings, six earned runs, nine hits, eight walks, four strikeouts) and Keith Pomeroy (0.1 innings). 

On the mound for Oceanside were Michael Dougherty (3.1 innings, four runs, two earned runs, three hits, four walks, three strikeouts), Matt Waldron (2.1 innings, one hit, one walk) and Jack Freeman (1.1 innings, one strikeout). 

Leading the way at the plate for Hermon was Kent Johnson (double, RBI). 

At the plate for Oceanside were Logan Sheridan (two singles, RBI), Jack Freeman (single, double, RBI) and Ben Ripley (two singles, two RBIs), Titus Kaewthong (two-run home run).

Softball: Oceanside 3, Medomak Valley 0 

The third-seeded Oceanside softball team topped sixth-seeded Medomak Valley in Rockland on Thursday, June 7. 

With the victory, Oceanside improved to 16-2 and advances to the regional semifinals on Saturday, June 9 at 2 p.m. on the road against second-seeded Old Town. Medomak Valley concluded the season with a 11-7 record. 

Though Old Town and Oceanside have not played each other this season, Old Town topped Oceanside 1-0 in eight innings last season during the regional championship. 

Oceanside plated its three runs in the sixth inning, while collecting two hits and committing two errors. Medomak Valley collected four hits and committed an error. 

In the pitcher’s circle for Medomak Valley were Addie Jamerson (5.1 innings, four strikeouts, five walks) and Gabby DePatsy (0.2 innings, one strikeout, one walk). 

In the pitcher’s circle for Oceanside was Chloe Jones, who fanned nine and walked one. 

At the plate for Medomak Valley were Sadie Cohen (two singles) and Gabby DePatsy (single). 

At the plate for Oceanside were Grace Woodman (single, RBI) and Raechel Joyce (single). 

“It was another close game with these two teams, it always comes down to who is gonna get the hit or make a mistake in the big situation,” said Oceanside head coach Rusty Worcester. “It’s tough playing each other twice during the year and facing each other in the second round of the playoffs the last three years.”
