Oceanside 8th girls basketball opens season with 2-0 record

DAMARISCOTTA and THOMASTON — Oceanside’s eighth grade middle school girls basketball team opened the season with two victories. 

The Mariners hit the road Monday, Dec. 6 to challenge Great Salt Bay in Damariscotta before hosting Appleton in Thomaston on Monday, Dec. 13. 

Oceanside 42, Great Salt Bay 29

The first quarter finished tied 8-8 and the first half ended with Oceanside up 16-14. At the end of the third quarter, Oceanside held a 32-22 advantage. 

Scoring for Oceanside were A. Poland (24 points), K. Deabler (10), L. Fales (four), B. Spearing (two), L. Lombardo (two). 

Scoring for Great Salt Bay were Tallulah M. (seven points), Maggie T. (six), Lexie H. (six), Olivia B. (eight) and Amelia S. (three). 

Oceanside 38, Appleton 30 

Appleton held a 5-3 advantage after the opening quarter and a 12-11 lead at the half. Following the third quarter, Oceanside held a 24-21 lead. 

Scoring for Oceanside were A. Poland (16 points), R. Drinkwater (two), K. Deabler (16), B. Spearing (two) and V. Davis (two). 

Scoring for Appleton were M. Hannah (two points), B. Odone (15), I. DeBrusky (11) and L. Ostramter (two).
