UPDATED: Murderer escapes Charleston prison, authorities on hunt

    UPDATE — At approximately 7 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18, escaped prisoner Arnold Nash was taken into custody by the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office, according to a media release from the Maine Department of Corrections. Nash was found in the Charleston area. No further were available at the time of the release. 


    CHARLESTON — Authorities are on the hunt for a convicted murderer who escaped from Mountain View Correctional Facility, according to a media release from Department of Corrections Commissioner Dr. Joseph Fitzpatrick.  

    Arnold Nash, 65, was last seen around 8:30 p.m. Sept. 13 in the minimum security unit of the facility, which is in Penobscot County.

    Nash is currently serving a 45-year sentence for murder and robbery, which he began in May 1992; he was scheduled for release Dec. 14, 2019. 

    Standing 5’6” tall, Nash weighs approximately 160 pounds and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt, and a light blue shirt. 

    Mountain View Correctional Facility is located approximately an hour north of Waldo County.

    Nash is believed to still be in the area, but anyone with any information on his possible whereabouts is asked to contact local law enforcement immediately.  

    The Department of Corrections is seeking any information available from the public related to Nash’s whereabouts. Anyone with information or possible sightings can call the Bangor State Police Barracks at 207-973-3700 or Mountain View Correctional Facility at 207-285-0880. Nash should not be approached if seen by the public, police said.
