ROCKPORT — The tennis courts were packed this past weekend at the Midcoast Recreation Center in Rockport as the organization hosted its New Year’s Open tournament, an annual USTA tournament showcasing players from around the state and New England region.

“This was one of the biggest tournaments that MRC has hosted,” said MRC tennis director Seth Meyer. “It is always so great to have a weekend packed with great people and great tennis.”

In men’s open singles final, Aaron Diamond of Moultonboro, New Hampshire defeated Hung Trieu of Leominster, Massachusetts 4-6, 7-6, 6-0. 

In the women’s open singles final, Sarah Gray of Woolwich defeated Paige Evans of Cumberland Foreside 7-5, 6-2.

In the men’s open doubles final, Chris Kemp of Tenants Harbor and Lewis Wheelwright (Rockport) defeated Jerome Faure of Portland and Matt Vonvogt of South Bristol 6-3, 5-7, 6-2.

In the open mixed final, Tanner Tanter of Warren and Betsy Kingsley of Cushing defeated Spencer and Sarah Gray of Woolwich 7-5, 7-6.
