Von Oesen excited for new chapter as Mount View boys basketball coach
THORNDIKE — The Mount View varsity boys basketball program will be under the new direction of a new head coach this upcoming basketball season.
The Mustangs posted a 1-17 record last season under the leadership of Chad Larrabee. In Class B North, the Mustangs finished in 15th place out of 16 teams.
At an August school board meeting, it was announced the Mustangs were naming Jeremy Von Oesen as the new Mustangs varsity boys basketball head coach.
Von Oesen is a 1994 graduate of the Thorndike school and played soccer, basketball and baseball as a Mustang. After high school, he played four seasons of soccer and one season of baseball at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
In fact, the three sports he played as a Mustang still remain a large part of his life today.
In an Oct. 11 email exchange, Von Oesen noted he plays soccer and basketball in men’s leagues, in addition to playing in a softball league.
Von Oesen has most recently spent time as the head soccer coach for both the men’s and women’s teams at Unity College. He has also been coaching youth and rec-league basketball teams since high school.
Asked about his goal for this new era of the Mustangs boys basketball program, Von Oesen said he envisions the team being competitive in each contest and “have the [opportunity] to be in each game with a chance to win.”
“There have been a few up and down seasons and I believe we can be in the playoffs each season and have success,” he said. “I want as any coach wants to teach these young men life lessons and how together you can achieve more. I believe the [M]ustang family can expect to see a team that is passionate, competes everyday, gets better with every experience, works hard from the opening tip to the final buzzer and a [berth] into the playoffs.”
