ROCKPORT — A motorcyclist heading eastbound on on Route 17 in Rockport crashed into bushes alongside the road this afternoon, May 3, suffering possible head and hip injuries.

The crash occurred just before 3:30 p.m. at a sharp corner in a spot near Mirror Lake where multiple other crashes have been reported.

According to Rockport Fire Chief Jason Peasley, the motorcycle apparently veered off the highway, onto the dirt after the driver lost control of it. The driver fell off, landing in bushes, while his helmet came undone from his head.

The motorcycle, meanwhile, traveled another 75 to 100 feet, crashed into a power pole, and came to rest back on the highway.

Two North East Mobile Health Services ambulances arrived, stabilizing and transporting the driver to Pen Bay Medical Center, in Rockport, where a LifeFlight crew was waiting with a helicopter to take him to a trauma hospital.

Firefighters returned to the station, but it wasn’t long after before they were called out again by Knox Regional Communications Center in Rockland to a structure fire in Rockland.
