Midday snowstorm generates big headaches for many drivers

KNOX COUNTY —  Though snowflakes appeared small and visibility remained average during the height a daytime storm, Thursday, Jan. 16, Knox Regional Communications Center received 27 reports of vehicle slide-offs and minor accidents between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Through the storm, with snow accumulations ranging from 5 to 7 inches, road conditions also ranged from clear with slick spots, to semi-plowed, to completely unplowed.

At one point, a portion of Old County Road between Route 17 and Lake View Terrace had to be shut down briefly after two vehicles slid off the road while a Rockland police officer was documenting another slide-off nearby.

Despite the number of vehicle-related incidents, few injuries were reported, allowing most local ambulance services to focus on their regular calls.

Though slide-offs continued after 6 p.m., through the night, and into the Friday morning commute, the bulk of incidents remained within the midday Thursday hours.

Out of those 27 midday reports, Warren accumulated the most reports with 7.

Below is a list of towns that had accidents between 0600-1800 on Thursday, Jan. 16.
