Midcoast Community Chorus Winter Concert to provide ‘Safe Harbor’
ROCKPORT — Midcoast Community Chorus (MCC) will present their annual Winter Concert, "Safe Harbor," on Sunday, January 14, at 4 p.m., at the Strom Auditorium, Camden Hills Regional High School, Route 90, Rockport.
Steven Weston, MCC's Artistic Director, with Sean Fleming, Assistant Director, will lead the 160-member non-auditioned chorus and the 40-member auditioned Chorale. They will perform songs derived from different musical styles and cultures - gospel, folk, jazz, popular and even a musical setting to a poem by E.E. Cummings. A program highlight will be a vocal orchestral piece, Nyon Nyon by Jacob Rumestad, sung as a lively exploration of a variety of sounds that can be produced by the human voice.
For this concert Director Weston chose a selection of music that examines the many facets of "safe harbor." He wants to give audience members an opportunity to explore how one might feel "safe," how we can provide safety for ourselves and others, the benefits and risks of a harbor and of harboring, the contexts of afety in solitude, nature, play, even adventure, and how safety contributes to feelings of joy, love and trust.
MCC's mission is to "sing as a community for the community," in affirmation that we each and all can make a difference in people's lives.
