ROCKPORT — "Spheres," the annual spring concert of Midcoast Community Chorus (MCC) will be held Sunday, June 16, at 7 p.m., at the Strom Auditorium, Camden Hills Regional High School, Route 90, Rockport.
MCC will sing a musical selection that features the "Missa Gaia," or Earth Mass, as well as songs of other spheres. The audience will listen to a rich array of different musical styles from around the globe, including animals "singing."
Hear the mystical melody of a tundra wolf, the jubilant song of a humpback whale, Brazilian chant patterns, syncopated rhythms from West Africa, contemporary gospel, mystical melodies that harken to early folk tunes, jazz, and exquisite chords atypical of choral music.
All the joyful, rhythmic energy and accessible music of this contemporary Mass are dedicated to Saint Francis, the patron saint of ecology. As is tradition, the audience will sing several songs as a community, fully participating in the concert as audience and performers.
Following another tradition, MCC donates a portion of its spring concert proceeds to a nonprofit in the community. This year OUT Maine was selected to receive support in its state-wide efforts to bring hope and possibility to Maine’s LGBTQ youth and create the welcoming and affirming Maine we all want to see.
Tickets for the concert are available on line at www.mccsings.org, or call the box office at 207-975-0582.
General admission tickets may be purchased at Clean Bee Laundry in Camden, The Grasshopper Shop in Rockland, and The Green Store in Belfast. Ticket prices for general seating are $15, with reserved seating prices $25 and $30.
Everyone is encouraged to purchase tickets early, since many of past concerts have sold out quickly, according to MCC, in a news release.
