BELFAST - Fresh off their critically-acclaimed production of Cabaret, Midcoast Actors' Studio continues its groundbreaking 2018 season with auditions for The Crucible, Wednesday, August 22, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast.

The Crucible is a 1953 play by American playwright Arthur Miller. It is a dramatized and partially fictionalized story of the Salem witch trials that took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony during 1692/93. Miller wrote the play as an allegory for McCarthyism, when the United States government persecuted people accused of being communists. It remains relevant in today's political climate as well.

Rehearsals will be in September/October, with dates and times TBA. Performances are October 26 - November 4 at the Crosby Center in Belfast.

Many roles are available for the most experienced actor to people new to the stage. Roles range in age 13-80. The Crucible will be directed by MAS Founding Artistic Director Jason Bannister, who recently played the Emcee in Cabaret.

Auditionees are asked to choose a monologue from ones selected at midcoastactors.org. Memorization is not required by highly encouraged. For more information email midcoastactors@gmail.com.
