Medomak Valley 9/10 softball eliminated from state tournament

GLENBURN — The 9/10 year-old state softball tournament was held in Glenburn, hosted by the Glenburn Little League, July 14-23 and the Midcoast region was represented by the Medomak Valley Little League 9/10 year-old softball team. 

Medomak Valley automatically advanced to the state tournament since no other leagues in District 2 fielded a 9/10 year-old softball team this summer. District 2 is comprised of Medomak Valley Little League, Lincoln County Little League, Waldo County Little League, Oceanside Little League and Five Town Little League. 

Other teams participating in the state tournament, aside from Medomak Valley, include Ellsworth (District 1), Hermon (District 3), Kennebunk-Wells (District 4) and Windham (District 6). District 5 did not sending a representative to the tournament. 

The winner of the state tournament advances to the East Regional Tournament to be held July 28 to Aug. 4 in Jenkins Township, Pennsylvania. 

The Medomak Valley team is comprised of Peyton Eaton, Sidney Nicholls, Rachel Barbour, Kytana Williamson, Haylee Chandler, Kendall Simmons, Ariel Castner, Arianna Sproul, Arianna Kennard, Emma Haney, Chloe Fox and Audrianna Jackson. The team is managed by Andrea Williamson, who is assisted by Richard Williamson and Katie Nicholls.  

Medomak Valley opened the tournament with two straight wins, a 5-4 win over Ellsworth (July 14) and a 8-2 win in 12 innings against Hermon (July 15). Then, Medomak Valley was bested 2-0 by Windham July 19 before being eliminated by Kennebunk-Wells 12-0 in four innings on July 21.

Leading the way at the plate for Medomak Valley was Kytana Williamson (single, RBI). 

Leading the way at the plate for Ellsworth were S. Lynch (two singles) and K. Bagley (single). 

Working the pitcher’s circle for Medomak Valley was Williamson, who fanned 11 batters and walked seven in six innings of work. 

For Ellsworth, the pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts and 13 walks. 

Medomak Valley 8, Hermon 2 [12 innings]

At the plate for Medomak Valley were Williamson (double, single), Kendall Simmons (single, RBI) and Audrey Jackson (single, RBI). 

Racking up one single each for Hermon were L. Johnston, K. Fowler and B. Wilcox. 

Working the pitcher’s circle for Medomak Valley was Williamson, who fanned 21 batters and only allowed one walk in 12 innings of work. She also fielded nine bunted balls was able to record an additional nine outs in that manner. 

For Hermon, the pitchers combined for 28 strikeouts and 14 walks. 

Windham 2, Medomak Valley 0 

Working the pitcher’s circle for Medomak Valley was Williamson, who fanned six batters and walked seven. 

Working the pitcher’s circle for Windham was Kennedy Kimball, who walked six, fanned 16 batters and tossed a no-hitter. 

At the plate for Windham, Kimball smashed two doubles, a single and a RBI, while Cami Casserly collected a single. 

Kennebunk-Wells 12, Medomak Valley 0 [4 innings]

In the pitcher’s circle for Medomak Valley was Williamson who fanned five batters and walked six and Sidney Nicholls who fanned one batter. 

Pitching for Kennebunk-Wells was Juliann Pike who fanned eight and walked one.
