Medomak Valley 11/12 softball mercy-rules Ellsworth in state tournament

GLENBURN — With the possibility of elimination from the state tournament on the line, the Medomak Valley 11/12 Little League softball team’s bats came alive Thursday, July 11 in Glenburn. 

With an abundance of runs, the local squad collected a 19-8 mercy-rule victory over Ellsworth in four innings. 

Medomak plated 10 runs in the third inning and nine in the fourth. 

Ellsworth tallied three in the third and five in the fourth. 

Working the pitcher’s circle for Medomak Valley was Kytana Williamson (five strikeouts, walk). 

Pitching for Ellsworth were Anna Stevens (six strikeouts, 10 walks) and Lily Bean (three walks, strikeout, hit-by-pitch). 

At the plate for Medomak Valley were Hope Mason (single, double, two RBIs), Williamson (single, double, three RBIs), Haley Puchalski (single, two RBIs), Olivia Pelkey (single, two RBIs), Kendall Simmons (single, RBI), Claudia Feeley (single) and Kaylee Collamore (RBI). 

At the plate for Ellsworth were Natalie Juegels (single, RBI), Stevens (single, RBI), Bean (two singles, RBI), Jayden Sullivan (single, RBI), Sophia Lynch (two singles, RBI) and Kelsie Lambert (single). 

With the win, Medomak Valley will challenge Hermon Friday, July 12 at 5:30 p.m. in another elimination game. 

Hermon earned an opening round bye as the host district before falling 10-1 to Windham on Thursday. Windham bested Medomak Valley 9-0 in the opening round. 

The Medomak Valley-Hermon winner will play its next game July 13 at noon in a final elimination contest.

The winner of the noon game will then play in the state championship a few hours later at approximately 3 p.m. An if-necessary championship game is slated for Sunday, July 14 at 10 a.m.
