Marine Corps League dinner celebrates 243 years of Marines
THOMASTON — Marines world-wide celebrate November 10 as the birthdate of the United States Marine Corps. The Corps was founded by Congress on that date in 1775.
Members of the MidCoast Detachment of the Marine Corps League located in Rockland will hold their birthday event on Friday, Nov. 9, at the American Legion Hall in Thomaston.
The celebration begins with a social hour from 6 to 7 p.m., a pot luck supper at 7 p.m., followed by a traditional cake cutting ceremony featuring the oldest and youngest Marines present and a reading of the Commandant of the Marine Corps annual birthday message.
Attendance is open to members of the Marine Corps League, their guests, and anyone that served in the Marine Corps or members of the U.S. Navy that served as medical corpsmen with the Marine Corps.
There is no charge for the supper but attendees are encouraged to bring a favorite dish to share.
Attendees are asked to call Robin Oulton at 342-3259 to RSVP for planning purposes.
Uniforms and business casual attire are recommended.
