The Brown Tail Moth and the effects this invasive species is having on the forest and inhabitants of the Midcoast will be the topic at the annual meeting of the Hosmer Pond Association meeting August 15.
Tom Schmeelk, forest entomologist who works for the State of Maine Department of Forestry, will give a presentation about the Brown Tail Moth.
He will address the history of the BTM in Maine, its biology, management strategies and current status.
Arlene Leighton, science educator who lives in Lincolnville, will lead the discussion following. The effects of the BTM is a concern for municipalities and affects community health .
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. with a potluck at the Camden Snow Bowl.
The business meeting will follow. The presentation by Tom Schmeelk will begin at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
