WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and two tribal organizations in Maine have been awarded a total of $3,586,266 to support mental health and substance use programs throughout the state.

This funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and will support accessible mental health programs across Maine, improve outreach and case management programs, and ensure that scientifically-established findings and practice-based knowledge are applied in preventing and treating mental health and substance use disorders.

“No community is immune from these heartbreaking disorders that have taken a toll on far too many of our peers, friends, and neighbors,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “Substance use and mental health programs are important to building healthier and more prosperous communities. We welcome this important investment in Maine families.”

The funding will be allocated as follows:

Maine Department of Health and Human Services has been awarded $2,000,000.

Aroostook Band of Micmacs has been awarded $500,000.

Wabanaki Health and Wellness has been awarded $1,086,266.
