Maine CDC announces 20 new COVID-19 outbreaks, including at Rockland Marine Corp.

    AUGUSTA — During a Nov. 20 virtual COVID-19 briefing, Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah announced his organization has launched 20 new COVID-19 outbreak investigations with 11 being opened Thursday, Nov. 19 and nine being opened today, Nov. 20. 

    One of those outbreak investigations is at the Rockland Marine Corporation on Mechanic Street, where six cases of COVID-19 have been recorded. That investigation began Thursday. 

    Rockland Marine Corporation, established in 1991, is a non-union full service shipyard and fabrication facility, according to its website, and located on Rockland Harbor.  

    Rockland Marine holds an ABR contract with the US Navy and is an approved shipyard repair facility with the US Coast Guard, according to its website. 

    In addition to the Rockland outbreak, Dr. Shah announced Thursday’s outbreak investigations included the Beckett House in Belgrade (four cases) Calais Elementary (four), Caravel Middle School in Carmen (three), Church of Faith in Skowhegan (three), Eric Knowlton School in Berwick (three), Hibbard Nursing Home in Dover-Foxcroft (three), Lewiston Middle School (three), Maine Department of Transportation’s western regional office in Wilton (three), Pinnacle Health in Canton (five) and York High School (four). 

    Friday’s outbreak investigations included Bath Iron Works (10 cases), Dielectric in Raymond (four), Good to Grow Child Care in Eliot (three), Southern Maine Health Care’s mental health construction site (four), Greene Central School (four), Marshwood High (three), Upper Kennebec High School (eight), Volunteers of America (three) and  Windham High School (three). 

    As of Nov. 20, there have been 9,958 cases of cumulative COVID-19 statewide since March including 8,933 confirmed and 1,025 probable. There have been 173 deaths and 7,590 recoveries. 

    Since March, there have been 628 hospitalizations including 90 presently in the hospital. Of those 90 presently hospitalized, 49 are in critical care and 12 are on a ventilator.
