Maine Lobster Week

Maine author talk with Lara Tupper and K. Stephens, Sept. 19

Event has passed

As restaurants around Maine prepare for a week celebrating the state’s iconic crustacean, two authors will be dishing up their experiences in a free Zoom presentation Sunday, September 19, at 6 p.m., around Maine fiction, the lobster industry, and how the sea has shaped their writing.

Lara Tupper, a Boothbay native, will discuss her new book Amphibians, a short story collection (Leapfrog Global Fiction Prize winner; Leapfrog Press). She’s also the author of Off Island, a novel set on Monhegan Island and inspired by the life of Paul Gauguin (Encircle). Her first novel, A Thousand and One Nights, is based on her travels at sea.

Stephens, who has lived in Midcoast Maine for 27 years, is the author of The Ghost Trap. Another Leapfrog author, Stephens’s lobstering novel was optioned by Khanlarian Entertainment to become an independent film and is currently in development.

Join Lara and K. for a 45-minute chat featuring a brief reading from each author and Q&A from the audience on anything you’ve ever wanted to know about what life is like in Maine, the settings and lobstermen that inspired the authors, as well as 12 recommended Maine books to put on your reading list.
