cultivating embodied, moment-to-moment awareness

‘Magic of the Present Moment’ mindfulness course to launch in January

Mon, 12/21/2020 - 3:45pm

On Tuesday, January 5, The Dancing Elephant will launch a 4-week mindfulness class via Zoom. The course, The Magic of the Present Moment, will be led by Cynthia Trone and Rachel Nixon.

The offering is part of the year-long program, Making Friends with Ourselves & Our World, January-December, 2021.

The class is open to the community by donation. Registration is required to receive Zoom link.

The Buddha taught mindfulness to his students 2,600 years ago. Today, it is everywhere – in meditation halls, schools, hospitals, and offices. In this 4-week class, participants will learn practical tools for cultivating embodied, moment-to-moment awareness: sensory activities, body scans, breath awareness, contour drawing, and nature observation. The science of mindfulness will be presented to illuminate the physiological benefits of practice. Everyone is welcome, from beginning to students to advanced practitioners.

Cynthia Trone earned her Master’s Degree in Mindfulness Studies from Lesley University in 2017. Her work focuses on the connection of ancient wisdom to modern crises. Rachel Nixon has been exploring Buddhist teachings since 1999. She has trained at the Insight Meditation Society in MA, as well as at Shambhala Buddhist Centers in the U.S. and Canada.

The Dancing Elephant is a community center for yoga, meditation, and art located in downtown Rockland. All programs are donation-based and available for all levels.
