    ROCKLAND — On Saturday, June 17, at noon, Maine author and illustrator Annie Higbee will read her new children’s book, The Hummingbird and the Narwhal, at Maine Coastal Islands NWR Visitor Center, 9 Water Street in Rockland.

    Bring a bag lunch, cushion and sun hat and sit outside on the replica seabird island. Learn about an unexpected friendship between a hummingbird and a narwhal. After the reading, participants can make an origami hummingbird or narwhal to bring home. Books will be available for purchase, and the author will sign books.

    The Maine Coastal Islands NWR Visitor Center is now open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through October. For more information, visit www.mainecoastislands.org or call (207) 594-0600 ext. 5114.
