Louise K. Ervin, obituary
OWLS HEAD — Louise K. Ervin, 101, passed away on March 10, 2025, at Owls Head Homestead in Owls Head, Maine.
Born on February 1, 1924, in Wiley's Corner, St. George, Maine, she was the daughter of the late J. Rodney Kinney and Emma D. Coltart. She was the sixth of nine children and shared a special bond with her mother, having been born on her birthday. Louise attended a one-room schoolhouse in Wiley's Corner before continuing her education in Tenants Harbor.
On August 1, 1942, she married the love of her life, Berton Leland Ervin. They shared 70 wonderful years together until his passing in 2012. Remarkably, all of her siblings also enjoyed marriages lasting over 50 years.
Louise dedicated herself to being a homemaker. She took great pride in cooking, cleaning, and updating her home with fresh paint and wallpaper. A talented seamstress, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting beautiful sweaters, mittens, gloves, and Afghans. She worked at Van Balen’s for ten years after her youngest daughter left for college.
She and Berton loved to travel, spending over ten winters in Florida and taking bus trips to various destinations. They also drove to places like Vermont and Toronto to visit friends they had met during their travels to Florida. She looked forward to hosting the family lobster feeds each year after attending the Lobster Festival parade.
Louise was affectionately known as "Old Gram," a name given to her by her great-grandson Keagen when he was just two years old—a title she cherished ever since. She enjoyed playing cards with great-grand daughter Makayla while those watching tried to determine who was cheating the most.
She was predeceased by her husband, Berton; son Robert; grandsons: Martin Ervin and Kurt Calligan; five brothers; two sisters; and all of her in-laws.
She is survived by her sister Alice; daughters Linda (Jim) and Debbie (Bernie); granddaughter Traci (Kurt), Rachel (Doug), Katy (Gary), granddaughter-in-law Katie: great-grandchildren: Ricky, Grace, Keagen, Calvin, Killian, Colin, Makayla, Brady and Justin; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Homestead for their loving care over the past decade. Their kindness made holidays special for residents, including a beautiful celebration for Louise’s 100th birthday.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home. To share a memory with the family, please visit Louise’s Book of Memories at www.bchfh.com.
