Locals honored as player, coach of the year by Maine Soccer Coaches Association

BANGOR — The Maine Soccer Coaches Association has announced an abundance of awards bestowed to high school soccer players from across the state at its 46th Maine Soccer Coaches all-star banquet. 

The event was held Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Anah Shrine Temple in Bangor. 

At the banquet, Camden Hills girls soccer players Kristina Kelly and Kaylyn Krul were recognized as two of the state’s five All-Americans.  

Kelly and Krul were also among 11 female players named to the all-region list, and the only local players. 

On the boys all-region list of 10 players, Elijah Allen (Mount View) was the only local player named to the list. 

The girls northern Maine all-state team also included Kelly and Krul. 

The boys northern Maine all-state team included Quinn Brown (Camden Hills) and Allen, while Colby Snow (Searsport) made the boys southern Maine all-state team. 

The Northern Maine girls Coach of the Year award was presented to Meredith Messer (Camden Hills), who also is a United Soccer Coaches region one nominee in the large school category for girls soccer. The region includes Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Kelly was named the Class A girls soccer Player of the Year.
