Local poets to present ‘Stories from Maine’ at Camden Public Library
CAMDEN — Midcoast poets Paul McFarland and Kristen Lindquist will tell their own "Stories from Maine" as they read from their poetry in the Picker Room at the Camden Public Library on Tuesday, June 26, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Both poets are graduates of the local high school (McFarland when it was Camden High School; Lindquist when it was Camden-Rockport High School), and their work offers something for everyone: Like poetry that rhymes? they've got rhyme. Prefer free verse? They've got that too, as well as poems that make you laugh and cry. Although their styles differ, their work—much of it rooted in growing up here in the Midcoast region—shares some of the same landscape and offers up familiar local personalities.
McFarland has been a participating member of the Rockport Poetry Group for several years and has read locally.
Lindquist has published two collections of poetry. The most recent, Tourists in the Known World, came out in spring 2017. Garrison Keillor has read three of her poems on the once beloved National Public Radio program,"Writer's Almanac.” Her work has appeared in various literary journals and anthologies. She will have copies of her book available for purchase after the reading.
This event is open to the public and free of charge. Light refreshments will be served. Come for the free cheese and crackers, stay for the stories!
