LINCOLNVILLE — It was a great day for a celebration Saturday, July 14, and that's just what the United Christian Church and Community Building at 18 Searsmont Road (Route 173) in Lincolnville Center did with the 25th annual Strawberry Festival.

Activities included games, crafts, face painting, a puppet show, performances by local musicians, sales of handcrafts, jams, pies, grilled hot dogs, and of course, strawberry shortcake with whipped cream.

A Parade down Main Street began at 10 a.m. with more than 50 children decorating their bikes and wagons.

Kate Kleber helped decorate the bikes.

"Roberta Heal, who is a member here, had a bag full of all kinds of streamers and stuff and I made a last minute trip to Walmart for pie plates and balloons," she said. "Another lady brought a bunch of stuff she had at home; feathers and pipe cleaners and all kinds of things. The kids seemed to have so much fun decorating their bikes. We had more bicycles this year than last. The kids are very creative. I used to teach so it was like revisiting my past."

Peg Miller was born and raised in North Lincolville and is 93.

"Barbara Jordan Tarantino and I were friends," she said. "Her mother was one of our teachers and we did a lot of things together and we started the Strawberry Festival years ago."
