Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office: Accidents involving a school bus, a snow plow and a trailer

Sheriff Todd Brackett reports the following:

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to 347 calls between Jan. 8 and Jan. 15. Year to date, LCSO has responded to 934 calls for service.

On Jan. 13, Reserve Deputy Dwight Fowles was dispatched to a criminal mischief complaint to a mailbox (value: $50) in the Whitefield area. The complainant stated that she discovered that someone(s) ran over her mailbox. Further investigation if leads develop.

Summonses

Jason H. Sehl, 40, of Boothbay was issued a summons Jan. 10 for Operating while License is Suspended or Revoked, on Ocean Point Road, Boothbay, by Deputy First Class Brian Collamore.

Beth M. Hancock, 31, of Boothbay was issued a summons Jan. 12 for Operating while License is Suspended to Revoked, on Federal Street, Wiscasset, by Sgt. Aaron Beck.

Arrests

Nicole E. Brann, 25, of Waldoboro was arrested Jan. 12 for Violating Condition of Release, on Waldoboro Road, Jefferson, by Reserve Deputy Dwight Fowles, who was assisted by Deputy Kevin Dennison.

Felicia M. Karcher, 33, of Augusta was arrested Jan. 12 for Domestic Violence Assault – priors, on Clark Lane, Whitefield, by Deputy David Bellows.

Accidents

On Jan. 8, an accident occurred on Boothbay Road in Edgecomb involving Janet L. Pratt, 79, of Boothbay Harbor. Ms. Pratt was operating her 2018 Subaru Outback northbound when she lost control of her vehicle on the snow/ice covered roadway. As a result, her vehicle went off the road and struck a tree. Lt. Brendan Kane was the investigating officer.

On Jan. 8, an accident occurred on Butler Road in Boothbay involving David K. Brewer, 32, of Wiscasset. Mr. Brewer was operating his 2005 Int’l Harvester/Navistar dump truck westbound, plowing the Butler Road during a snowstorm. Brewer failed to adjust the distance and the snowplow wing struck a CMP utility pole, causing the pole to break and the wires and pole to fall into the roadway. No visible damage to the truck or plow. Lt. Brendan Kane was the investigating officer.

On Jan. 9, an accident occurred on Route 1 in Newcastle involving Kenneth Von Felten, 53, of Rockport. Mr. Von Felten was operating his 2018 Ford F150 northbound when he observed smoke coming from the engine compartment. His vehicle had just been undercoated at Wiscasset Ford. Deputy First Class Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.

On Jan. 10, an accident occurred on Cooper Road in Whitefield involving Jeffrey L. Allen, 60, of Chelsea and Jonathan W. Webb, 62, of Whitefield. Mr. Webb, who was operating his 2017 school bus westbound was stopped with his red lights on, when Mr. Allen ran into the back of the bus with his 1996 Dodge 1500. Deputy First Class Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.

On Jan. 10, an accident occurred on Ocean Point Road in Boothbay involving Jason H. Sehl, 40, of Lewiston and Timothy M. Wilcox, 65, of Boothbay. Mr. Sehl was operating his 2014 GMC Sierra eastbound and Mr. Wilcox was operating his 1985 Mack truck westbound. Mr. Sehl lost control of his vehicle due to excessive speed and crossed the center yellow line and impacted the rear left side dual wheels of Wilcox’s vehicle. Deputy First Class Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.

On Jan. 10, an accident occurred on Route 1 in Edgecomb involving John A. Carter, 59, of Edgecomb; Rebekah A. Marks, 18, of Waldoboro; Micah T. Smith, 27, of Bremen; Bruce E. Johnson, 80, of Portland and Peter S. Kent, 67, of Woolwich. Mr. Kent was operating his 2008 Subaru Forester southbound, while hauling a trailer with an unsecured load. Two bundles of insulation fell out of the trailer on the Davis Island Bridge. Kent turned around and stopped in the northbound lane to retrieve the insulation. Mr. Carter stopped his 2015 Lexus RX350 behind Kent’s vehicle and Ms. Marks stopped her 2012 Mazda 6 behind Carter’s vehicle. Mr. Smith was operating his 2011 Nissan Rogue northbound and did not notice the vehicles stopped in the roadway. As a result, Smith struck the rear of Marks’ vehicle, which caused her vehicle to hit the back of Carter’s vehicle. Mr. Johnson was operating his 2010 Ford Fusion northbound behind Smith’s vehicle and struck the rear of his (Smith’s) vehicle when Smith struck Mark’s vehicle. Kent left the area, then returned later and was issued a Violation Summons and Complaint for Unsecured Load. Kent’s vehicle was not struck during the accident. Sgt. Aaron Beck was the investigating officer.

On Jan. 14, an accident occurred on Gore Road in Somerville involving Linda L. Perkins, 63, of Washington. Ms. Perkins was operating her 2012 Dodge Journey southbound when due to sun glare, she started to slow down because of visibility issues. As a result, her vehicle slid on the slick roadway, slid into the bridge guardrail, and came to rest. Deputy First Class Brian Collamore was the investigating officer.
