Letter to the editor: Tim Carroll is the real deal

Tue, 05/01/2018 - 6:45pm

To The People of Knox County: I was born and raised in Port Clyde, graduated from Georges Valley in Thomaston in 1988, and am a fifth-generation Lobster-Fisherman. As a back-up plan to Lobster-Fishing, I went to School for criminology, and worked for the Knox County Sheriff's Department for a number of years.

Now, in my mid-40, I've decided to run for representative of Maine House District 92.

This has been a massive undertaking, and like many new things we meet new people, and even re-meet old friends. So, when I saw my friend Tim Carroll was running for sheriff, I didn't have much of a problem knowing I could call on him. I'd like to tell you a bit about Tim.

Tim and I first met in the 1990s. Our daughters went to school together. I got to see a side of Tim, the father first, something that gives me tremendous insight into such a dedicated man. Our kids had sleepovers and birthday parties together. After working with him, it became obvious to me that he was a man of the people, asking to serve the people. He always went out of his way to make sure that all of the little things were taken care of.

Being a member of the department, I was able to see these abilities first hand. He has always worked. As a matter a fact, I've know Tim Carroll the Coach, the Man at Fuller's, Tim the Marine Patrol officer, the Father, and most importantly my friend. Tim possesses a tremendous amount of stamina, and perseverance, something we truly need from our sheriff.

I look forward to seeing him out and about, having coffee with the people, and finding out what's going on, much like the old sheriffs used to. Tim plans to use local and state officials to help end the drug epidemic and ensure school safety, and it started the minute we reconnected.

I'll be in constant contact with him. We have a bond and a real line of communication. This will remain, as we move forward and attack these problems together, with each other. No party lines are involved here.

This is about sacrifice for us both. What can we do to help the parents of school children feel at ease, using the resources we have? What do we need? How can we take care of business? Using hard work, dedication, and self-sacrifice, that's how.

Tim's willingness to put himself on the line, for a quarter century, is admirable at the least. He understands the balance of firmness and compassion. He's not the type of man who's going to worry about what letter is next to our names on the ballot(s). Neither am I. He knows what we must do to get results.

We'll work relentlessly together in order to secure the necessary resources for our county.

In closing, Tim Carroll is a great man. He's the real deal, and I look forward to working closely with him in the future. So, please, as the season of hot-tempered elections draws near; let's remember that it isn't always about specific ideology. Sometimes, it's a matter of who you trust to get the job done, and know who can do it right. That's why I'll be voting for Tim Carroll as our next Knox County Sheriff. I hope that you, too, will vote for my friend.
Thanks,
