Letter to the editor: Pray for the water

I remember when MBNA was praised as a “clean business,” and a welcome boon to Belfast. Once built, the worst ecological impact was “the tremendous amount of water” used in watering its lawns. Ah, the good old days. And where is MBNA now? When they left town, other “clean” businesses replaced them.

Nordic Aqua factory is not a “clean business”.  It is an industrial exploitation of a precious natural resource, on a massive scale. And it is a polluter of our bay.

Whether it is a so-called “sustainable” food production business, as it is touted to be, and whether it will be designed with “nordic elegance”, it is a foreign based takeover of this community’s  basic right to Water.

Local control of water is our economic security, indeed National security. Not just for Belfast, but for every community that draws from our aquifers.Citizens of Belfast, citizens of Maine, resist. Water is our Wealth, Water is Life.
