Kendall Merriam: New Yorker’s Moon

Wed, 10/07/2020 - 7:00pm

    For Drew and Ella
    Started 8:55 PM

    Your full moon, October

    looks like a silver broach

    shining through leaves and branches

    clouds

    Tiffanys finest work

    could you see this

    above Trump Tower

    wherever you lived

    in some park, meadow

    was it safe enough

to take a walk in the dark

    for a cinnamon bun

    or did you have to

    wait for early morning

    when the movie bakery opened

    for hot rolls

there is some very good news

    in that regard

    here in Rockland

    The Willow Street Bakery

    is open again

    making real doughnuts

    tasty and crunchy

    7 AM to 12 PM

    we got some molasses today

if we knew your favorite flavor

    we would have purchased

    a half-dozen for you

    better than most in NYC

in return for all the gifts you have given

    under a lovely moon
