June 19 tornado warning gets Midcoast ducking for cover

Cellphones lit up with the tornado warning Saturday evening – long, insistent blares of warning, if the phone speakers were not muted. Otherwise, the warning came in flashes of light across screens, competing with the flashes of lightening that were descending in a large blanket of menacing clouds off to the northwest.

Seek shelter and stay away from windows, the National Weather Service, warned.

The track of the storm, which arrived just before 5 p.m., careened down through Waldo County, drenching Lincolnville with rain and hail and grazing Knox County in Hope and Appleton, before moving over Islesboro and East Penobscot Bay.

One tree caught fire in Hope, sending firefighters to tend to it.

Camden resident Todd Anderson grabbed his drone and sent it skyward up approximately 200 feet to capture the extraordinary beauty of the storm as it passed.
