NORTHPORT — Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish will be back at the Blue Goose Dance Hall to celebrate the Summer Solstice on Sat. June 15, with a Rites of Summer Dance Party.
Last years October 27 dance was cancelled due to a Noreaster that created hazardous driving conditions for the band and knocked out the power in Northport that evening.
“It may be a week early for the solstice, but we can’t think of a better way to kick off the summer here in Midcoast Maine,” said the band, in a news release.
Located on Rt. 1 Northport. The Blue Goose Dance Hall (originally built as a roller skating hall in the 50s) has arguably one of the best dance floors in the state; and Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish have been playing the hall, and keeping the dance floor packed, for nearly 25 years now, according to the band.
Formed in 1991 and based out of Martha’s Vineyard, Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish are a hard driving Blues / Roots band at heart.
Their live shows include Hoy’s harmonica playing, bluesy howl and energetic stage presence. Longtime member Jeremy Berlin on piano and accordion will be returning with Hoy. New to the Goose will be guitarist Delanie Pickering and drummer Kevin Medeiros.
Tying it all together is their “Dance-Vibe” weaving a playlist of rocking rhythm and blues, and roots rock Americana that will take you through Country, Blues, Zydeco, Swamp Pop, Rockabilly and Swing.
Come out and see why the Blue Goose has become the bands favorite venue to play, and celebrate this change of season and dance.
The dance will take place from 8 p.m. and run to 11 p.m.+ with the doors opening at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets $20 per person or $35 a couple at the door.
All Ages welcome. Smoke and Chem Free
