The public is invited to participate in an important fundraising event that will take place on Sunday, January 19, 2020, in support of Julie Landwehr and her family.
Julie Drinkwater Landwehr is a strong woman who has successfully stared cancer in the face for the past 25 years; nearly half of her life. For the last four years, Julie has battled Stage 4 bone cancer with the quiet yet vigilant spunk that has helped her defy the odds for all these years. Julie has recently undergone chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and while her will is undeniably strong, she is unable to work and provide for her family at this time.
To know Julie is to know life being lived to its fullest measure. A loyal friend to many, a profound parent, and compassionate supporter of others down on their luck, Julie is perhaps best known for her expertise with barber shears. She has been a self-employed hairdresser at Eric’s Barbershop in downtown Camden, Maine, for more than 30 years.
Now, friends and family are coming together to stage “Join in for Julie”, a fundraising dinner and auction that will be held on Sunday, January 19, at the Rockland Elks Lodge, 210 Rankin Street. Tickets will be sold at the door: $10/adult; $5/child 10 and under; $30/family of 4 or more. Please note: CASH AND CHECKS ONLY for dinner and auction items.
Dinner will be served starting at 4 p.m., featuring a variety of soup/chili/chowder, salad, bread and dessert, all donated by local individuals, food purveyors and dining establishments. A Dessert Auction will also commence at 4 p.m., with diners vying for fabulous dessert platters donated by local bakers.
The Silent Auction will feature more than 50 items on display and open for bidding from 4 to 6 p.m.
Silent Auction tables will close every 15 minutes from 4:45 to 6 p.m., allowing those who wish to bid but not stay for the entire evening an opportunity to participate. There will also be a variety of raffle baskets.
The Live Auction will start at 6 p.m., with Tom Peaco as auctioneer.
Many businesses and individuals have donated items for the various auctions. To view the donation list prior to the event, visit the “Join in for Julie” event page on Facebook. Please show your support by attending the dinner and bidding on these wonderful auction items. If you have questions, please contact Sue Wootton at 207-691-7189 or Bobbi Oxton at 207-691-7240 (texts only, please).
If you cannot make it to the dinner and auction, but would like to support the Landwehr family, here are several additional ways you can help:
1. Make a contribution to the “Benefit for Julie Landwehr” account at any office of Camden National Bank.
2. Make a contribution to the “Join in for Julie” GoFundMe page, (https://www.gofundme.com/f/join-in-for-julie) and share the campaign on your Facebook page and other social media platforms.
“We thank you all for your positive thoughts and your generosity,” the organizers said, in a press release. “With everyone pitching in, we can help Julie and her family feel at peace and gather their strength for the road ahead.”
