APPLETON — Janice C. Demuth, 90, died peacefully, Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Born in Portland, September 9, 1932, Janice was the only child of Charles and Margaret King Miller. Growing up in Burkettville, she attended school there, later graduating from Appleton High School.

As a young woman, Janice worked for several years in the local fish factories, processing fish. After marrying Kenneth Demuth, the pair owned and operated a poultry farm and blueberry fields. Janice kept busy helping on the farm and raising her four children. Janice and Kenneth enjoyed over 50 years of marriage before Ken passed away in September of 2001.

As her children began school, she went to work at the Appleton Village School, serving hot lunch. Janice was an amazing cook and known for her delicious meals. In 1988 she took 3rd place with her short rib recipe in the National Beef Cook off. Her talents didn’t stop at the main course, her sweet treats and desserts were just as scrumptious.

Janice loved being a homemaker, keeping an immaculate home, beautiful gardens and staying busy and active in the lives of her children. Watching old movies and taking in the splendor of the old time movie stars was something she greatly enjoyed.

Family has always been her number one priority, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren has been her most recent passion. For the past several years, Janice has enjoyed the company of Byron Fish, who passed away just a few weeks ago.

Janice will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth; her companion, Byron Fish; a daughter-in-law, Delores Demuth; and a son-in-law, George Overlock; Janice is survived by her children, David Demuth and his wife Deborah of South China, Craig Demuth of Union; her daughters, Pamela Stearns of Rockport, Rosemary Overlock of Union; a sister-in-law with whom she had a special relationship, Jackie Gushee of Appleton; six grandchildren, Michael Norwood, Jenny Harris and her husband Neal, Adam Stearns and his wife Miriam, Casey Stearns and his wife Anna, Kenneth Demuth, Sara Demuth; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Richie, Kenny, Harry, Kyle, Marissa, Abby and Emily.

Janice will be laid to rest Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 11 a.m., at Pine Grove Cemetery, Sennebec Road, Appleton.
