Islesboro – An estimated 200 summer and year round island residents gathered on the front lawn of the Islesboro Community Center last Sunday, June 28, to express support for equal rights, diversity and an end to racism.

Five individuals described personal experiences that highlight the imperative for compassion and equity among humans, especially in the United States right now.

Following the speeches, most attendees marched down Mill Creek Road carrying signs of hope and validation. The Waldo County Sheriff’s Department and Islesboro’s Public Safety Officer were present to close that section of Mill Creek Road and ensure the safety of demonstrators.
