A series of Make Shift Coffee Houses (gatherings of people across the political spectrum to understand each other’s views in public discourse) is about to be held in Waldo County and organizers want to see if they impact overall civility in the community.

Founded and facilitated by Craig Freshley, a Brunswick resident, Make Shift Coffee House is a venue where people of all political persuasions come together in a relaxed "coffee house" like atmosphere to discuss diverse issues and listen to and understand each other's opinions and perspectives. Frequently, unique conversations unfold and opportunities for "civil" discussions arise.

This effort is not affiliated with any specific town government and is completely non-partisan, according to Make Shift. They are simply using municipal newsletters as a way to reach people who care about civic affairs in the local communities, according to Make Shift.

Waldo County Make Shift Coffee House events are planned for Belfast, Searsmont, and Searsport.

Survey deadline is Tuesday, October 8.
