WALDOBORO — Tops’l Farm and the Waldo Theatre host two evening screenings of Hidden Figures, Thursday, August 6 and Friday, August 7, as part of their Films at the Farm partnership this summer. These outdoor, picnic-blanket “drive-in-style” events are held at Tops'l Farm (365 Bremen Road).
Three brilliant African-American women at NASA – Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe) – are the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn (Glen Powell) into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation's confidence, turned around the Space Race and galvanized the world, according to a news release.
Year: 2017; run time: 127 mins; rating: PG.
Reservations are by donation, per person, to cover the cost of film licensing. Any additional funds raised will benefit the Somali Bantu Community Association's purchase of Little Jubba Central Maine Agrarian Commons farmland.
Tickets are available online for a pay-what-you-wish donation: https://waldotheatre.org/pages/events. Audience size is limited to stay within Maine CDC gathering guidelines.
Arrival time at Tops'l is suggested beginning at 6:30 p.m., with the film starting as soon as it’s dark enough for projection. The farm field will be set up “drive-in” style with designated areas for audience members to place their own blankets and chairs, spread apart for social distancing.
You can pre-order Thursday Tops’l Treats or Friday Picnics online. No outside food, please (water is permitted).
Masks are required while not in your own “parking spot.”
Rain dates will be offered on the same weekends: Thursday films on Sunday and Friday films on Saturday.
