Event has passed

Herring Gut Learning Center’s Learn-Discover-Grow series will present Blue Mind Theory, Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at 7 p.m., via Zoom.

Guest speakers include:

Eric Hopkins, Maine Artist

Catherine Schmidtt, Science Communication Specialist at the Schoodic Institute

John McIlwaine, Mentor, Life Coach, Meditation Instructor

Georgie Burruss and Patrick Burnham, Herring Gut Educators

“The term ‘blue mind’ describes the mildly meditative state we fall into when near, in, on, or underwater,” said Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, author of Blue Mind. “It’s the antidote to what we refer to as ‘red mind,’ which is the anxious, over-connected, and over-stimulated state that defines the new normal of modern life. Research has proven that spending time near the water is essential to achieving elevated and sustained happiness.”

The presentation will answer some of these questions...

Why do so many people vacation by the water?

Why do you get your best thoughts in the shower?

Why do we feel calmer when walking on the beach?

Why does awareness of our ecosystem impact our wellbeing?
