HOPE — After five years of serving as superintendent of Union 69, Dianne Helprin submitted her notice of resignation as superintendent prior to the holiday season.

Union 69 is a school district that comprises Appleton Village, Hope Elementary and Lincolnville Central schools.

Helprin’s resignation will be effective at the end of the school year on June 30.

“It has been one of the best educational experiences of my career working with each of you and the school communities of Hope, Appleton and Lincolnville,” she wrote in a memo to the school committee members. “I have enjoyed my five years here immensely and appreciate the support and confidence I have felt from my first day here.”

In the memo, Helprin noted she looks forward to the time she will be able to spend traveling and visiting with family and friends.

Helprin came to Hope, where the Union 69 superintendent’s office is based, in 2015 from Southwest Harbor, where she was the principal of Pemetic Elementary School for 13 years.

After working as an elementary school teacher, she spent a decade as a principal in Ohio and was recognized in 2010 at Principal of the Year at Pemetic, according to the Mount Desert Islander

A special meeting of the joint school committee for Union 69, bringing the three separate school committees together, will be held Thursday, Jan. 23 in the Hope Town Office at 6 p.m.

The special meeting will be centered around a workshop with Steven Bailey, the Executive Director of the Maine School Management Association.

Bailey will be describing and discussing the superintendent search process with the joint committee.

The association provides school boards and committees with free workshops on how to conduct superintendent searches and offers, for a fee, to assist school boards in a multitude of areas of the search process.
