Harold I. Cushman, obituary

Harold I. Cushman, 94, went to be with his Savior on March 5, 2020, after a brief illness.

He was born in Port Clyde on October 16, 1925, to Charles and Bertha (Stone) Cushman. He attended local schools and was drafted into the army at age 18. He fought with the 75th infantry in the Battle of the Bulge.

In 1951 he married his first wife, Hilda Swanson. Together they had three children. During this time, he worked for Bernard Davis trucking lobsters. He also worked for Marine Colloids, Armors and at Waldoboro Lockers as a meat cutter.

Later in life he married Gloria McGray and made his home in Belfast.

Harold was predeceased by his parents; his brothers Linwood, Bernard, Shannon, and Woodrow; his sisters Catherine and Adela; and a foster daughter, Alana Rowe.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Hilda Cushman; sister, Betty Lou Jackson of Alabama and brother Leroy and his wife Beatrice of Rockland; daughter Darlene Melanson and her husband Terry of Cushing; sons David and Frederick both of Spruce Head; two grandchildren, Angela Prior and husband Todd of Cushing, and Albert Grant and partner Sara Mitchell of Warren; two step-grandchildren, Terry Melanson, Jr. of Waldoboro and Corey Melanson of Cushing; several great grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

His family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at the Jed Prouty Assisted Living Facility in Bucksport for their great care.

A celebration of life will be held at the Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast on Saturday, March 14, 2020 with a time of visitation at 10 - 11 a.m., where the funeral will immediately follow at 11 a.m.
