CAMDEN — Gardener John Fromer will lead a hands-on workshop on garden planning and seed starting workshop on Saturday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Merryspring Nature Center.
Longtime Merryspring instructor and volunteer John Fromer teaches this class on everything gardeners need to know about getting ready for spring. This course will teach the basics of garden planning including garden sighting and placement, seed biology, selecting good seed varieties, and starting and propagating seeds indoors.
Each guest will plant two flats of selected flower and vegetable seeds for growing and transplanting at home.
John Fromer has been a Maine Master Gardener since 1998 and runs Appleton Ridge Flower and Vegetable Farm with his wife, Kathy, also a Maine Master Gardener. Together they grow flowers, vegetables, and herbs in a sustainable and authentic fashion. He currently serves on the Merryspring Nature Center board of trustees.
This program is the first of three weekend gardening workshops hosted at Merryspring this season, and part of the Weekend Workshop series. The cost of this class is $45 and includes all materials, with a discounted rate of $35 for Merryspring members. This workshop will be held inside Merryspring’s ventilated greenhouse.
