Habitat for Humanity of Waldo County to hold second plein air event

Event has passed

BELFAST — Habitat for Humanity of Waldo County will hold its second plein air event in Belfast and surrounding areas on the last weekend of September 2023.

Some two dozen professional artists will be painting in various locations around the area throughout the weekend starting Friday, Sept. 29. The event culminates with a live auction of their works on Sunday, Oct. 1, at the Belfast Boathouse, 34 Commercial St., Belfast.

Stroll the area’s beautiful scenes, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to watch some of the artists in action as they create the works that will be auctioned off. Then on Sunday at 4 p.m., enjoy wine, beer, hors d’oeuvres and live music while having an opportunity to view the newly created art.

The auction will begin at 5 p.m. with auctioneer Kaja Veilleux, of Thomaston Place Auction Galleries. Also available at the reception will be smaller, unframed pieces of art in closed boxes for $250 each. The buyer gets a surprise for which artist’s work is in the box.

Tickets for the auction are $50 and are available at Mailloux & Marden Law Offices, 151 High St., Belfast; by calling the Habitat office at 207-338-2344; or at the door.

The artists who have committed to provide pieces for the auction include Colin Page, Kenneth DeWaard, John Santoro, Peter Yesis, Diane Durbreuil, Daniel Corey, Matthew Russ, Deana Ball, Nora West, George Van Hook, Anthony Walkins, Stephan Giannini, Bjorn Runquist, Michael Vermette, Roberta Gosche, Olena Babek, Eric Glass, Nancy Morgan Barnes, Alison Hill, David Hurley, Holly Smith, Marsha Donahue, Carol Douglas, and Susan Tobey White.

“Not all artists will be painting each day, so take time throughout the weekend to see the various pieces as they are created and then join us at the final auction to see all the completed pieces,” said Habitat, in a news release.

The artists have agreed to split the sale price of their paintings with Habitat for Humanity of Waldo County.
