ROCKPORT — Saturday, May 28, Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) invites the public for a guided bird walk with MCHT steward and naturalist Kirk Gentalen, at Erickson Fields Preserve, located at 164 West Street, in Rockport.
From 8 to 10 a.m., Gentalen will lead a group around MCHT’s Teen Ag garden and through the woods, teaching how to identify birds by sight and sounds, and discover what other creatures inhabit the preserve.
Over the last 30 years, Gentalen has worked as a naturalist in 13 states and has led birding trips as far away as Alaska, California, and Georgia. Locally he has led trips for Midcoast and National Audubon Societies, Down East and Acadia birding festivals as well as “Thursday morning bird walks” on Vinalhaven Island.
Kirk Gentalen is Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s steward/naturalist for Vinalhaven Island where he also edits the “Vinalhaven sightings report” summary blog of natural history sightings from around Vinalhaven.
The walk is free and open to levels of experience. Registration is required. To register and for more information, visit aldermere.org/bird-walk or call 207-236-2739.
