KNOX COUNTY — Nonprofit and public organizations seeking funding for projects that strengthen communities are encouraged to apply to Maine Community Foundation’s Community Building Grant Program.

The deadline for applying is February 15, 2020. Application, guidelines, and a list of recent grants are available at www.mainecf.org.

A volunteer committee of Knox County community leaders reviews grants and makes recommendations for funding, according to MaineCF, in a news release.

In 2019, the committee awarded $47,888 in grants to 11 nonprofits, including:

LEAPS of IMAGINATION Inc., to bring LEAPS of IMAGINATION to South School in a collaboration that inspires children to become artists and authors in the context of environmental exploration

Midcoast Recovery Council, to provide safe, sober and supportive housing and coordination of wrap-around services for people with substance use disorder

Volunteers of America NNE, to implement Food Security for Seniors program (with food distribution and community meals) with recipients (older adults living with limited incomes) as organizers and leaders.

Established in 1993, the Knox County Fund provides permanent support to nonprofits in the region. The fund has awarded more than 200 grants since 1995. If you would like more information about the fund, contact Senior Program Officer Maggie Drummond-Bahl at 1-877-700-6800 or mbahl@mainecf.org.
