Gary James Seavey, obituary
SWANZEY, New Hampshire and ROCKLAND, Maine — Gary James Seavey, born April 30, 1934, in Rockland, Maine, passed away on December 23, 2025, surrounded by the love and legacy of a life well lived.
Gary graduated from Rockland High School in 1953 and proudly served two years in the United States Army as a clerk in Austria, where he formed several lifelong friendships. Following his military service, he pursued higher education, earning a degree in Business from Husson College in Bangor, Maine, and later a master's degree in English from Emporia State College in Kansas.
On August 11, 1962, Gary married the love of his life, Ann “Chick” Seavey. Their marriage was the foundation of his life, filled with partnership, shared values, and devotion. Together they made their home in Swanzey, New Hampshire, where Gary dedicated 25 years to teaching business and typing at Keene High School. He was a devoted educator who valued learning and inspired countless students throughout his career.
Gary was a man of many talents and interests. He was a gifted artist and painter, with a keen eye for beauty and detail. He loved music, followed baseball with enthusiasm, and cherished everything that made Maine special. Baseball, in particular, was a lifelong joy. He played throughout high school and college and treasured the unforgettable experience of playing in an Old Timers game alongside Ted Williams—a story he held close.
After retirement, Gary and Ann returned home to Maine. Being a lifelong devout Catholic, he and his wife volunteered for many years at the soup kitchen at St. Bernard’s Church in Rockland. Service to others came naturally to Gary and reflected his quiet generosity and compassion.
Gary was the son of Rowland Seavey and Alice (Robshaw) Seavey, and stepson of Katie (Hattie) Seavey.
He was predeceased by his parents, his stepmother, his son Adam, and his brother Joseph Seavey.
He is survived by his beloved wife Ann; his son Joel and wife Molly; daughter-in-law Pam; grandchildren Jason (Alaina) Seavey, Brody Seavey, and Nichole (Markus) Jacobo; and his great-grandson Adam Seavey.
Gary will be remembered for his creativity, kindness, dedication to education, love of family, and enduring pride in his Maine roots. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, learning, and quiet strength that will live on in all who knew him.
